Soil & Stillness

Today : A’jourdui

Happy Column Day - Here I am surrounded by plants in my little office corner, breakfast nook, sitting area I've created at our apartment. I look over the town people shopping in the streets as I connect my mind to the computer, editing our website.

I love having an area where all my plants go, rather than spread out all over the house. It helps me to check on all of them at once, and similar to me - I think they work better when together. Actually - it's a fact, it creates a better humidity for them. But - bummer when one gets sick … they all do. Right now we have “fungus gnats” but they were here when we arrived, so i’ve not tried anything to get rid of them. We live above a bakery and somehow I relate the yeast and the life of the bread that attracted them (could this be true?).

Ive been watching my purple viney plant (or Tradescantia zebrina as the professionals would say or Spiderwort as this website says) grow very leggy and daily I resist not to trim it back and propagate but today I couldn’t take it. So, I distracted myself from the online work to do a little plant care - it's also part of the job, no? Being a good plant mom? But, just like any other role in life we all have different levels of success or skill in a field. Being a plant parent for me is kinda just learning from the plants as much as I can, and being inspired by their intricate beauty. I do as little maintenance to them as possible while having them thrive. For me, the plant tells you what they need, you just have to know what you’re looking at. A basic understanding of what types of plant needs what level of light, water, and type of soil is the secret.

When Dan told me he was creating (Grow Queen All in One) I was the perfect target. Someone who’s not trying to read small print labels and ratios to match my 20+ plant collection, and I also have no interest in any Monsantos chemicals either. So, after years of not fertilizing here I am loving the result of an even happier plant that I knew existed as an indoor plant.

For today - I really just wanted to share this moment of working surrounded by plants in a foreign country, it's a vibe.

"There’s something meditative about snipping a stem and giving it new life.
This week, it was my Spiderwort’s turn — Tradescantia zebrina, with her striped purple leaves catching the soft French light. I didn’t plan it, I just noticed a few leggy vines reaching for a little more. So I sat down, shears in hand, and let stillness guide the moment."

It’s in these small, quiet rituals that I feel most connected — to my plants, to this place, and to the pace of growth that asks nothing more than patience.

If you’ve got a little propagation project going, or just a moment in your week that made you slow down and notice something green — I’d love to hear about it. 🌿
