Growing Through What You Go Through: A Conversation with Botanically Be

Grow Queen Journal · Grower Spotlight
How a single snake plant grew into a community of hundreds of thousands — and a lesson in growing through what you go through.

At Grow Queen, we believe plants are about more than care routines, fertilizers, and potting mixes. They are companions through life’s seasons, reminders to slow down, and reflections of our own growth.

Few people embody that philosophy better than Britt — known online as Botanically Be. What started as a single plant during one of the most difficult periods of her life eventually grew into a thriving community of hundreds of thousands of plant lovers. Along the way, Britt discovered something many of us spend years searching for: the intersection of passion, purpose, and community.

Finding Plants During a Difficult Season

Like many plant parents, Britt’s journey didn’t begin with a rare collector’s plant or a carefully curated indoor jungle. It began during the pandemic — with a snake plant.

After a difficult change, isolation from family, and the uncertainty so many experienced during COVID, she found herself searching for something grounding. While scrolling online, she kept being drawn to photos of homes filled with plants.

“I would see these spaces and feel a sense of relief, calm, and peace. I remember thinking, ‘I want that.’”

What started as curiosity quickly became obsession. One plant became ten. Ten became fifty. Before long, plants had become a source of healing.

“They gave me what I needed when I needed it most.”

From Personal Hobby to Plant Community

Originally, Britt documented her plant journey simply as a personal diary. She wasn’t trying to become a creator, land brand partnerships, or build a business — she was simply sharing what she was learning.

But something unexpected happened: people connected with her authenticity. They saw someone learning in real time, making mistakes, celebrating wins, and genuinely falling in love with the process of growing plants.

As her community grew, Britt realized she wasn’t just posting for herself anymore. She was becoming the plant friend she wished she’d had when she started.

“I wanted to be the plant bestie that I needed when I first got into plants.”

That mindset would eventually become the foundation of everything she built.

The Exercise That Changed Everything

One of the most powerful moments in Britt’s story wasn’t about plants at all. It was a simple exercise. She created three lists:

🌱  Things she was good at
🌱  Things she loved doing
🌱  Things she would do for free

Two things stood out on every list: plants and helping people. At the time, she didn’t know what that meant professionally or how it would work out — but she knew it mattered. Looking back, it became the compass that guided everything that followed.

“When passion meets purpose, opportunities open up.”

Building Community Beyond Social Media

As her audience continued to grow, Britt’s focus shifted beyond content creation. She wanted to create real-world community.

That vision became a series of events designed to bring plant lovers together through shared experiences, education, music, conversation, and connection. They became a success because they answered something many plant lovers feel: a desire to belong.

Plants often begin as a personal hobby, but they frequently become a bridge to community. Whether it’s online friendships, local workshops, plant swaps, or farmers markets, plants have a remarkable ability to connect people.

Why We Love Britt’s Approach to Plant Care

One of our favorite parts of the conversation was hearing Britt challenge some of the most common plant care myths. Her biggest pet peeve? Repotting immediately.

Many new plant parents bring home a plant and assume the first step is replacing the soil. Britt disagrees.

“People ask how I get my plants so big. The answer is that I leave them alone.”

Her philosophy is rooted in observation rather than intervention. Instead of constantly fixing, changing, or repotting, she encourages people to understand what their plants are already doing successfully.

It’s a perspective we deeply appreciate at Grow Queen. Healthy plant care isn’t about doing more — it’s about understanding more.

What Plants Teach Us About Life

When asked what plants have taught her about life, Britt’s answer perfectly captured why so many people connect with plants in the first place. Her favorite quote is:

“Plants will take care of you if you take care of them.”

But she believes the deeper lesson goes beyond care routines. Plants have taught her resilience. Patience. Perspective. Growth.

“They’ve taught me that you can grow through what you go through.”

As she looks around her home today, she sees more than leaves and roots. She sees milestones, challenges overcome, new chapters started, and versions of herself that no longer exist. Every new leaf is a reminder that growth is often happening long before we notice it.

Growing Together

At Grow Queen, we often talk about the idea that life supports life. Britt’s story is a beautiful example of that principle in action.

Plants supported her through a difficult season. She used that experience to support others. Those people formed a community. And that community continues to grow.

That’s what makes the plant world so special. We’re not just growing plants — we’re growing ourselves, our communities, and our connection to the world around us. And sometimes, all of that starts with a single plant.
